Dandeli is a town in the western Indian state of Karnataka. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, with its trails and dense forests, is home to animals including black panthers, monkeys and elephants, as well as many bird species. A temple stands at the entrance to the limestone Kavala Caves, known for their stalagmite formations. West of the caves, Anshi National Park encompasses the Kali Tiger Reserve. I am blogging with the short experience i had but

We started from Bangalore by around 8am (JP nagar) and took the following route as suggested by google maps which i feel is the best route. We reached dandeli by around 5:30pm with about total 2 breaks of half an hr each.

1) Bangalore –> Tumkur –> Davangere –> Ranebennur –> Haveri –> Take left off NH towards Tadas –> Huyiyala Kalaghattigi –> Huyiyala –> Dandeli. Road is good via tadas , kalaghattigi, huyiala to dandeli compared to below route

2) Bangalore –> Tumkur –> Davangere –> Ranebennur –> Haveri –> Hubli –> Dharwad –> Dandeli. Road and traffic is bad via hubli-dharward. In Hubli via city we wasted 1.2 hrs for mere 20kms stretch. (Return journey to Bangalore)

I had booked the homestay about 2 weeks prior the trip dates. This is a lean period so you have better chances of getting a good deal but as i did search over in booking.com, trivago and other websites i found dandeli is way too expensive place to visit with other places of choice like coorg, madikeri etc. But if you like forests, nature this is a great place with lot of wild animals safari, kali river and this is well known for water sports which is a great relaxation. But make sure you choose the best resorts or homestay which themselves provide these facilities. But also plan well before you choose your dates and booking as when we went there the kali river was almost dry and the very purpose of visiting there for water sports was in jeopardy.

I recommend following resorts which are at a premium but safe and worth, compared to other money hungry, with not much good facilities provided homestays. Try to avoid homestays as much as possible and choose resorts for stay especially if you are few people (<4) travelling to dandeli.

1. Hornbill
2. Bison river resort
3. Many resorts / hotels in the dandeli to goa stretch in < 50-80kms. Roads are good so this would take 1 to 1.5hrs to travel. Worth to do if your prefer your stay to be much more peaceful with good facilities/restaurants.

But homestays are best when you are more number of people and budget constraints are there.

Things you can do at dandeli:
0. Water sports : River rafting, kayaking, zorbing, river crossing, fishing, swimming, rappeling etc
1. VISIT TO SYNTHERI ROCKS
2. VISIT TO TRIBAL VILLAGE
3. CAMPING IN JUNGLE
4. VISIT TO SATOD /MAGOD FALLS (Full Day)
5. VISIT TO MUNGUND (LITTLE TIBET) (ONLY INDIAN
NATIONALS
6. CROCODILE SIGHT SEEING
7.VISIT TO ORGANIC GARDEN
8.DANDELI WILD LIFE SANCTURY (WOODED HIKES, BIRD WATCHING ETC)
9.DANDAKARANYA PARK
10. MOULANGI ECO PARK

Experience at "Dandeli nature camp homestay near to wild-flower homestay:

Dandeli nature camp homestay Pics:

"Location is good but homestay is unhygeinic . Not worth the money charged and not good for families"

Pros:
The accommodation is worst. No cleanliness and toilets are not hygienic. The owner Anil/Ashok bidada are courteous but too much business minded. The website booking did not have a payment gateway but we had to send money through NEFT after talking to him over phone. They charged Rs 2800 per person for a 2 day package, which i feel is not worth provided the facilities provided. Boating, swimming, Jacuzzi, jungle walk, zorbing or kayaking and parks visit is provided free which literally costs him nothing. River rafting is around Rs500 for 2 kms which i feel is waste of money as they just take us through only 1 stream. The accommodation costed Rs11200 for 4 guys with breakfast, tea, lunch snacks, night fire camp and dinner covered but no music provided and considering the cleanliness of the home-stay with only 1 toilet for 4-6 people is poor standards. Considering Rs3000 for food, the rest Rs3000 per day for stay is way too expensive.

Cons:
The place of this dandeli nature camp is located well and also the homestay is just amidst a jungle estate covered with a small group of houses with hilly region covered with large amount of teak wood trees and forest. But there is no danger of any wild animal attack.
Food is prepared and served hot but is of average quality. They do not customize it much. This is good for only people like college preferring a okay location with minimum facilities. Most of the information is shared over whatsapp. Water sport activities provided in this package is good interms of guide provided and safety process in the kali river during river rafting but not worth the money. The accommodation costed Rs11200 for 4 guys with breakfast, tea, lunch snacks, night fire camp and dinner covered which is good. Is not good for family. After one day stay (actual booking was for 2 days) i ended up paying 9,500 in total for 4 persons with extra Rs2000 for just 2 kms river rafting (1 stream only). I felt looted.

There were other groups in the nature camp who said this is a better place than they were before. So probably in terms of food and package deal this might be a good one for college guys / people with budget constraints. Tea was not good đŸ™‚
